Cummo's Legacy

The John Cummins Memorial Fund has been established with Australian Communities Foundation to honour the memory and legacy of John Cummins.

John died of a brain tumour on August 29, 2006. He was just 58.

The memorial fund is the initiative of John’s family, friends, colleagues and comrades - Cummo’s Committee.

The purpose of the John Cummins Memorial Fund is to honour and continue in some small way John’s lifetime work.

Our Purpose…

Our Impact

“True to his nature, through the establishment of this unique service, John Cummins remains an inspirational leader. His legacy continues to connect, educate and support patients and their families to better cope with the challenges faced with the diagnosis and treatment of a malignant brain tumour.”

Cheyne Brudenall, Head of Philanthropy, Austin Health

$1.5+ million

The JCMF has contributed $1 million to Austin Health’s Brain Tumour Support Service alone.

The fund has also granted nearly $400,000 to help disadvantaged students, and over $60,ooo for community sport.

15 years

The fund has been serving the community for well over a decade. As well as supporting a major health initiative, we also provide assistance to community organisations like the North Heidelberg Sporting Club.

370+ students

John trained to be a teacher and remained passionate about helping young people achieve their potential. So are we, and we’ve helped hundreds of students through our scholarships program.

The John Cummins Memorial Fund respectfully acknowledges the Australian Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples as the first inhabitants and the traditional custodians of the lands on which we live, learn and work.

Scholarships

We encourage secondary students who display determination, commitment and passion.

We support students who are experiencing disadvantage and who are striving to reach their potential.

Scholarships of up to $1,000 per student are available.

We also partner with schools and community organisations targeting students who benefit from additional support to stay connected with their studies.
